  1. Hi Fatima,

It's Leslie here, reading your blog from my home in chilly Canada - brrr... it's winter time. I'm a member of the Summer Learning Journey team and I'm so glad that you've chosen to be a part of this program this summer. Good for you!

You've done a good job of filling in the blanks about bumblebees. I'm aware that there's some concern about a shortage of bumblebees both in New Zealand and in Canada. They're so very important for a number of reasons including our reliance on them to fertilize our plants so that we can enjoy the fruits and vegetables we love. Every creature on the planet has an important job to do in the circle of life, doesn't it? It's important that we live carefully so that we all live in balance with each other.

Have you seen any bumblebees around gardens this summer? Our friend who lives in Auckland has commented that he's only seen a couple of them - he's hoping that he will see more as the summer goes along.

I'm looking forward to looking for bumblebees in a few months, once spring has arrived and the snow has melted, allowing our gardens to emerge. We're a long way from that at the moment, however!

I hope you're having a super summer and I hope you'll continue your efforts at this Summer Learning Journey program.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
